For Children age 2 months to 18 months
Children have been receiving Prevnar 7 to prevent invasive Pneumococcal disease since the year 2000. Recently a 13 valent Pnuemococcal vaccine became approved by the FDA, providing even better coverage safely. This vaccine prevents 6 more subtype of Pneumococcal invasive disease which is responsible for meningitis, pneumonia, bone, skin and joint disease. For infants under 15 months of age PCV 13 will be substituted for the PCV7 in the current series, administed with the next routine physical examination.
For Children 18 months to 59 months
One of these vaccines can be given if the PCV7 series of 4 has been completed. to provide full protection. We recommend that you call our office to schedule this vaccine or you can receive this vaccine at your child's next yearly physcial exam (as long as your child will be less than 5 years old).
